Sports Premium 2017/18 – £17920

How has the Sports Premium been allocated at Whittlefield in 2017/18?

At Whittlefield Primary School we recognise the valuable contribution Sport and PE make to the health and well-being of our children. We believe that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children. Our Governors agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability. We are using the funding to:

  • Continue to promote healthy and active lifestyles across school. Encourage ALL children to be physically active as much as possible both inside and outside of school.
  • Encourage all children to become physically active and help them on the lifelong journey to leading a healthy and active life.
  • Continue to ensure PE/Sport is an important part of daily school life.
  • Ensure all children value taking part in PE/sport and adhere to the values which come with it.
  • Develop cross curricular links with other subjects and outside partners.
  • Develop the designated PE staff skills so that consistently High Quality curriculum/activities are delivered throughout school.
  • Engage all children through a varied sports programme and Increase range of extracurricular activities delivered after-school.
  • Enable children to learn and develop new skills.
  • Develop gifted and talented pupils.
  • To give opportunities to all our children to take part in intra and inter competition. Support pupils to deal with adversity and success .Raise aspirations and promote the enjoyment of physical activity.
  • Buy into local SSP to ensure continuity and growth of local infra-structure. 
  • For Additional swimming lesson for children who require additional support to ensure they reach the expected standard by the end of Key Stage 2.
  • To develop the school grounds in order to engage children in purposeful physical activities – before during and after the school day.

2016/17

Sports Premium 2016/17 – £8810

 How was the Sports Premium spent at Whittlefield in 2016/17?

At Whittlefield Primary School we recognise the valuable contribution Sport and PE make to the health and well-being of our children. We believe that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children. Our Governors agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability. In 2016/17 we used the funding to:

  • Employ a specialist PE apprentice to support quality PE lessons and support and develop other staff
  • Run new and additional sport clubs across the whole school.
  • Pay for professional development opportunities in PE/sport.
  • Provide cover to release our teachers for professional development in PE/ sport.
  • Improve facilities and resources for the teaching and learning of PE and Sport.

Whittlefield Primary School is proud to be a member of the Burnley Schools Sports Partnership. It is funded by the Primary and Secondary schools in Burnley and Padiham using an allocation from their Sports Premium.

The aims of the partnership is to get all children involved in sport and give the children the opportunities to showcase skills they have learnt in a competitive environment.

What was the impact?

Whittlefield measure the impact of the Sports Premium by using questionnaires with children and parents, attendance of CPD opportunities by staff, participation in sporting events and tracking the development for all children. In 2016/17 the following the sports premium had the following impact:

  • Increase of knowledge from staff with regards to teaching PE.
  • All children had access to competitive competition
  • Improved  fitness levels of all children
  • An increase of physical activity by all children within the school.
  • A change in attitude and lifestyle by children towards physical activity.

The school won the most improved school in Burnley award from the Burnley Schools Sports partnership with an increase of 183%.

  • Run new and additional sport clubs across the whole school.

2014/15

Sports Premium 2014/15 – £8810

At Whittlefield Primary School our Sports Premium Funding was used for the following things:

  • To pay for additional swimming lessons for all Key Stage 2 children.
  • To provided professional coaches to provide workshops for classes linked with Literacy and Numeracy.
  • To enhance opportunities for children to participate in competitive sport through the Burnley School Sports Partnership.
  • To provide staff with CPD opportunities by working alongside coaches from the Burnley School Sports Partnership.
  • To increase the range of equipment that children have access to during lunchtimes and playtimes, in order to expose them to a higher range of physical activity. These included fixed hoops and nets for Key Stage 2 play area.
