Year 6 2024 - 2025
Our teacher in Year 6 is Mr Booth and he is helped by Mrs Danby.
It has been an exciting start to Year 6 and we are looking forward to teaching you this next year and hope you will enjoy your time in Year 6.
Some work will be challenging, but it’s lots of fun too!
Autumn Term
In the Autumn Term, Year 6 have been reading Michael Morpurgo’s Running Wild and RJ Palacio’s Wonder. The children have really enjoyed these texts and produced some really heart felt pieces of writing. They have managed to think about others and write from different character’s perspectives. The children have created their own precepts and we have been working on hard on remembering: When given the choice between being right or being kind. Choose kind.
In Maths, the children have been working hard on place value up to 100 million. They have been practising reading and writing these number and then using these numbers within the four operations.
In Science, the children have been learning about how we are similar and different to our parents. They have been learning about inheritance and variation.
Autumn Term 2
In Year 6 leading up to the Christmas break we will be looking at classic fiction, we have chosen the wizard of oz written by L Frank Baum, the work in Year 6 is getting trickier and we will be working on punctuation and how to use parenthesis.
We will be starting SATS club after the half term, these are 1-hour sessions after school (letter to follow) so we know what to expect and are ready. The Year 6 children are quite excited about this. I’m sure the promise of a biscuit has spurred them on!!
