Shuttleworth College
Throughout the school year we take part in many special days and events that take place at Shuttleworth College. Here’s to name but a few:-
Year 5 Sports Day
Shuttleworth College have held a Year 5 sports day for two consecutive years. Our cluster of Primary schools who participate are; Ightenhill, Wellfield, Padiham Green, Padiham Primary, St Leonards, Lowerhouse and us. We all compete in football, rounders and athletics. All carefully mentored by Shuttleworth students.
Year 6 Enrichment Programme
Moving from primary to secondary school is a significant change in your child’s life, which is why Shuttleworth have a dedicated team, focusing on both pastoral and academic aspects of transition, to support your child during this time.
Shuttleworth College have strong links with local primary schools, which means that many students have contact with them through curriculum links and most able support from year 5 onwards. In October of each year, year 6 students go to Shuttleworth for taster days. This enables students to familiarise themselves with secondary school, developing the students’ confidence in moving onwards. Throughout year 6 students are welcomed to join in after school enrichment sessions, run by the transition team, supporting them in making new friends, getting to know us and becoming part of the Shuttleworth community.
During the summer term, the transition team will visit each feeder primary school to meet our new students officially, and build a pen portrait of each child; to get to know each student before they start in September, which enables them to support and enhance their Shuttleworth journey. All new entrants go to Shuttleworth for a highly engaging and successful transition week, leading to a parent and career showcase. The transition week theme is continued to summer school, which runs in the first week of the holidays and is open to any new students.
The transition process does not end in September, as they will be supported throughout year 7 by the pastoral leader that has guided them through transition. Shuttleworth are proud of their transition process, and how quickly the year 7 students settle in.
Homework Heroes
Year 7 and 8 children from Shuttleworth College visit the school every Monday to support children in years 1 to 6 with their homework. They provide excellent role models for our children and reinforce the importance of homework, both at Primary school and later in their education.
STEM days & Most-able Workshops
Our gifted and talented most able year 5 students attend Shuttleworth’s STEM lessons. These sessions nurture the children’s talents and help them become the best they can be. The STEM days help to enrich their learning experiences and give them a taster doing high school work!
In addition to the above, Shuttleworth regularly invite us to competitions and productions. They also lend us their mini bus (with driver!) to take us to Primary School events, for which we are very thankful for!
