SEND

Whittlefield Primary and Nursery School is a mainstream primary school with Nursery provision. We believe that every teacher is a teacher of every child or young person, including those with SEND. If children are not able to ‘learn the way we teach’ then we must ‘teach the way they learn’. Good practice for pupils with Special Educational Needs is good practice for all.

We identify the appropriate action to take in order to meet specific needs. Early identification is essential because the sooner we take action the more responsive the pupil is likely to be to the intervention.

The identification process is achieved through continual use of classroom observations, questioning and assessments of all pupils. Progress is tracked formally on a half termly basis and where appropriate, more frequently. This aids identification of their immediate and long term needs.

Complaints for parents of children with Special Educational Needs:
The complaint procedure for special educational needs mirrors the school’s other complaints procedures. Should a parent or carer have a concern about the special provision made for their child they should in the first instance discuss this with the class teacher.

If the matter is not resolved satisfactorily parents have recourse to the following:

  • discuss the problem with the SENDCo

  • discuss the problem with the Key Stage Leader

  • discuss the problem with the Headteacher

  • More serious on-going concerns should be presented in writing to the SEND Governor, who will inform the Chair of the Governors

Should you wish to make an appointment with any of the above, please contact the school office on 01282 429419 or at bursar@whittlefield.lancs.sch.uk

The complaints procedure can be found on the school website.
If the complaint regards a Statutory Assessment of a child’s needs, the complaint should be forwarded to the Local Authority.
